For owners, IT teams & contractors

Bring evidence to the handoff.

Whether you need reports for a new installation or answers about existing cabling, the starting point is the same: a defined test scope and results you can trace to the cable.

01 / NEW INSTALLATIONS

Close out the cabling scope.

Include certification in your completion plan. Agree the required limits, cable IDs and report format before testing begins.

02 / INDEPENDENT TESTING

Use a separate testing partner.

LVC can certify copper cabling installed by another contractor. Keep the installation and testing responsibilities clear while giving the owner documented results.

03 / PROBLEM LINKS

Find what needs attention.

Investigate failed links and cabling faults. Review the findings, agree corrective work and define which links need retesting.

Professional copper certification

The test setup belongs in the scope.

LVC offers Cat5e, Cat6 and Cat6A certification with permanent-link or channel testing. We select the applicable standard and test limit for your cable category, configuration and project specifications.

A permanent-link test covers the installed cabling between its termination points. A channel test includes the patch cords that form the complete connection. The adapters and test limit must match the configuration being tested.

Have a higher-category copper requirement? Send the specification. Supported higher-category testing is quoted only after confirming the required adapters, connectors and available test limits for the configured DSX2-8000.

  • Pass/fail against selected limitsCertification records show the result for the standard and limit used.
  • Fluke LinkWare reportingOrganize certification results for the owner, IT team or project closeout package.
  • Failure review and troubleshootingIdentify links needing attention; scope repairs and retesting separately.

Know what “tested” means

Three tests. Different questions.

A continuity check is useful, but it does not establish standards compliance. Specify the evidence your project requires.

Verification

Is it connected correctly?

Basic continuity and wire-map checks help find connection errors such as opens, shorts or incorrect pin assignments.

Qualification

Can it support an application?

Qualification assesses support for a network application or speed. It serves a different purpose from certification to a cabling standard.

Certification

Does it meet the selected limit?

Certification measures the link against defined cabling standards and produces stored pass/fail results for the chosen category and configuration.

Large projects & bulk certification

Plan testing around the job.

Share the approximate number of links, site location, cable category, construction stage and deadline. For phased work, include which areas will be ready and when both ends of the cabling will be accessible.

LVC can provide certification as a standalone scope or coordinate it with cabling installation and subcontracting work. Scheduling and capacity are confirmed for your project.

Discuss Bulk Certification

Help us quote the right visit

  • What needs testing?Link count, Cat5e/Cat6/Cat6A or other specified category, and permanent-link or channel requirements.
  • Where and when?Project location, access restrictions, readiness and closeout date.
  • What needs handing over?Specification sections, labeling requirements, report format and any known failures.

Unsure of the test configuration? Include that in your inquiry so it can be resolved before work is scheduled.

Before testing

Know what you’re buying.

Can you certify cabling installed by someone else?

Yes. Independent third-party copper certification is available for cabling installed by other contractors. We agree the links, selected limits, access requirements and reporting scope before testing.

What if a cable fails?

A failed result identifies a link that did not meet the selected test limit. LVC can investigate the failure and discuss corrective work. Repairs and retesting are defined in the project scope; a passing result is never assumed.

Can you certify an existing network?

Existing copper cabling can be assessed and certified to an agreed test scope. Share the category if known and any service interruptions that must be planned. Network devices may need to be disconnected to access and test the cabling.

Does certification include a manufacturer warranty?

A certification report documents the tested cabling against the selected limits. Manufacturer warranty eligibility and approval are separate requirements and are not included by default.

Does this service include fiber certification?

This service covers copper cabling. For fiber installation or infrastructure coordination, describe the required work in your inquiry so the scope and testing responsibilities can be reviewed separately.
